Denial

Denial is a handicap that a person continues to live with and even believes it to be the truth.Sometimes the consequences are evidently bad but at other times the individual continues to live a lie.It hampers growth in ways one cannot even fathom. Today even as I was halfway through putting in a needle into a patient with pleural effusion    one of my juniors came to me with an ecg of a patient with what seemed like a hyperacute myocardial infarction .A few hasty questions and I sent him right back to the casualty with a host of instruction.Cutting short my procedure I found the gentleman screaming in pain which does not bode a good prognosis. The senior nurse was at it loading the patient with the required medication. I got the entire nursing team running around when the patient just collapsed cold.In no time we were at it doing a good cardiopulmonary resuscitation but I had never seen a patient with cardiogenic shock survive but we kept them going. His heart wou...

‘Your faith has healed you.Go in peace.‘

Women as individuals are such fragile beings. It does not take much to break us.Some do it publicly, some just give up on life and become another news item to be remembered for sometime and then nothing. We have friends and families which surround us and take us along. Depression is understated in our times. One day I found myself feeling miserable for no apparent reason.Like I always do ,I started dissecting and analysing the reason . Like a friend of mine suggests ,it could be hormones. I picked myself from the bed and rushed to the church and by the end of the time in the church my mood was back to normal. I have become a lot more introspective, and intentional in the way I do things. Friends have confessed about having had periods of bad phases so I often find myself extending and bending a little more backwards to reach out in what way I can, In the church is a lady who has been attending the service for umpteen number of years who always has these episodes...

These days...

One wisecrack going around in the net said ,’everyone is happy with the Delhi election results .AAP is happy they won,Congress is happy BJP got a drubbing and BJP is happy because Congress lost its deposits in most constituencies.’ AAP’s hattrick had a lot to do with the work it has done but also the smart election communication.Credit has to be given to Prashant Kishore as well. I have been in the heartland for a little over a year I am yet to see a clear intent in the political parties that run for election in these places. Most of India has become comfortable with getting votes for rhetoric’s and other dynamics and once in power they seem to lose their bearing completely. It took a practical IIT graduate to actually lay down a road map for different kind of politics to resonate with the public. My hunch is that the huge amount of fund used for the publicity of the work done helped. India still has a large population of people who blindly follow maverick godmen who end up in ...

Rolling down the river....

It has been a thoughtful month.I had the privellage to visit the Asha Kiran Hospital I had heard much about all my formative years. It is a paradise wilfully built with a clear vision and a commitment to serve the people in the area.I can only imagine what it must have been like in the beginning.Just obedient people casting nets in faith to the way beyond. It stands as a testimony ofGod’s faithfulness . Dr Varghese Philip one of the founders was there to speak into our lives.A man of few words ,listened much, spoke little but powerful and apt lesson into our lives. The words he has spoken in the past has served me personally as guiding stones in the better part of the three decades of my life in missions.I am much thankful to God for that. I also had the privellage to interact with DrSantosh after a gap of almost five years. Another big bonus of making that journey was to catchup with old friends like Sheba and Andy,Victor and Sarah.Victor with his extensive experience of administ...

Khichdi....

Uttar Pradesh just celebrated Khichdi in the last month. It took a time out spending with my nursing friends to understand what it means.A poor lady from the church crept up to me in the outpatient and pushed a packet of muri laddoos with jaggery.I could not refuse so I accepted it gracefully and later passed it on to Shenaz who has children who would enjoy it. Khichdi is a time of the year when maternal side of the family visit their daughters in their homes with a potpourri of the year’s harvest. So it would consist of an array of stuff hence named Khichdi.I was fascinated by the concept when it struck me that it had its downside.I believe when the pout pouri from home does not match up it is also a cause of anxiety for the brides in their husbands home. All the rituals seem to be heavily biased against a girl child and hence the sort of response we get when we deliver them. I find it all poignant in its connotations but people are actually living such lives. For thr rich the ritual...
